Tier 4

I am sure many of you are still disappointed as we are by the news of the various restrictions announced over the past few days across the UK.

The UK Spa Association attended a meeting with central government on Saturday evening and will continue to work closely with the department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), and the devolved governments over the Christmas period.

Please find below a summary of the changes:

ENGLAND

In England, spas and gyms are now closed in Tier 4 areas including London and parts of the South East and the East of England. The regulations came into force at 7am yesterday, Sunday 20thDecember.

No exemptions were placed in the regulations as a result of the wish to have “tighter restrictions” in Tier 4 given the prevalence of the disease in those areas.

To clarify at this time close-contact services can’t operate in any setting in a Tier 4 area, including.

·        Salon, spa or mobile

·        Education and training

·        Hair and makeup on Film and TV

We acknowledge the 30th December review date for these restrictions.

Personal care, including saunas and steam rooms, pools and gyms still remain open in Tier 1-3

WALES

The Welsh Government announced that all close contact services and gyms in Wales will close in Tier 4. The level 4 lockdown will be reviewed in three weeks.
